Description

Bagasse is the leftover fiber after the extraction of juice (sugarcane juice) for sugar production. Instead of being discarded or burned inefficiently, bagasse is processed into biomass pellets that have a high caloric value and are environmentally friendly.

Manufacturing Process

The process of making sugarcane bagasse pellets generally involves several stages

  1. Drying: The wet sugarcane bagasse is dried until it reaches the optimal moisture content for combustion.
  2. Refining (Grinding): The dried sugarcane bagasse is then ground into uniform small particles.
  3. Pelletizing: The finely ground material is compacted using a high-pressure pellet machine. The pressure and heat from this process help the natural lignin in the sugarcane bagasse act as a binder, forming dense and sturdy cylindrical pellets without the need for additional materials.
  4. Cooling: The newly formed pellets are cooled to increase their hardness and prevent damage.

Excellence

Sugarcane bagasse pellets offer several significant advantages as an energy source

  • Renewable and Sustainable: It is the result of recycling agricultural waste, making it a renewable energy source and reducing waste volume.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Its combustion produces lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels. In addition, the ash from the combustion can be utilized as fertilizer.
  • High Caloric Value: Having a competitive caloric value, it provides good combustion efficiency.
  • High Energy Density: The solid pellet form allows for more efficient storage and transportation compared to raw sugarcane bagasse.
  • Size and Shape of Uniform: Facilitating the use in automatic combustion systems, such as pellet stoves or industrial boilers.
  • Reducing Dependence on Fossil Fuels: Supporting the transition to cleaner energy and reducing fossil fuel imports.

Application

Sugarcane bagasse pellets can be used for various applications, including

  • Power Plant: As fuel for the boiler in biomass power plants.
  • Industrial Heaters: Energy sources for boilers and furnaces in factories.
  • Household Heater: Used in pellet stoves specifically for room heating.
  • Agricultural Drying: Fuel for grain drying machines or other agricultural commodities.
